Information about cookies

1. What are cookies and why do we use them on TPNET websites?

A cookie is a file that is downloaded to the user’s device when accessing certain web pages to store and retrieve information about the browsing done from that computer..

Cookies allow the website, among other things, to store and retrieve information about the user’s decisions and habits. In TPNET use them to personalize the experience on our sites, identify and remember the registered user and facilitate navigation. Under no circumstances do they provide personal data. User anonymity is guaranteed.

Users who wish to do so can configure their browser to not accept the use of cookies, being able to access our sites but without a personalised experience. For more information on what cookies are and what they are used for on the Internet, go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie

2. What cookies do TPNET websites use?

Our websites use session and persistent cookies. Session cookies expire when the user closes the browser, whereas persistent cookies expire either when their intended purpose is fulfilled or when proactively deleted by the user. Based on their objectives, we classify cookies as follows:

  • Performance cookies: used to remember choices and, generally, enhance the usability of our sites.
  • IP-based location cookies: allow us to provide advertisements and other content tailored to each user’s country of origin.
  • Web analytics cookies: used for statistical purposes, measuring variables such as time spent on pages, number of visits, and pages viewed.

Additionally, third-party cookies from providers such as Twitter, Facebook, or Disqus are also used. These cookies have been accepted by users at the time of registering for each respective service and can also be manually deleted.

  • Geolocation cookies: These cookies are used to determine the country from which the user requests a website or service. This cookie is completely anonymous and is only utilized to help tailor content to your location.
  • Registration cookies: Registration cookies are created once the user has registered or subsequently logged in, and they are used to identify the user on websites and services with the following objectives:

To keep the user logged in, so that if they close a service or website, the browser, or computer, and later or on another day re-enter that service or website, they will remain identified, facilitating navigation without having to log in again. This feature can be disabled by the user clicking the “Log out” option, after which this cookie will be deleted, and the next time the user visits the website, they will need to log in again.

To verify whether the user is authorized to access certain services, such as participating in a contest.

Additionally, some services may use third-party connectors, such as Facebook, Twitter, or Google. When the user registers for a service using social media credentials or third-party identification systems, they authorize the platform to store a persistent cookie that remembers their identity and ensures access to the website until it expires. The user can delete this cookie and revoke website access through social networks or third-party identification systems by updating their preferences in the relevant social network.

To manage advertising on TPNET, advertising services known as Adservers are used, which may store user cookies to handle ads. Currently, we use Google’s Doubleclick platform to manage these services.
